You step off the KTX at Busan Station and need a hotel area. The three common choices are all on Busan Metro Line 1, so you can reach any of them without changing trains. We went through the official Busan Metro line map and the Visit Busan pages to compare them.

πŸ“‹ The short answer
βœ“ Stay at Busan Station if you want the shortest walk from the train and a simple start
βœ“ Stay in Seomyeon if you want the biggest shopping and food district, and the easiest link to Gimhae Airport
βœ“ Stay in Nampo if you want markets, street food and the old downtown on foot
βœ“ On Line 1, Nampo is 2 stops and Seomyeon is 6 stops from Busan Station

How far apart are they on Line 1?

The official Busan Metro line map lists the Line 1 stations in order. From Busan Station:

Jagalchi3Jungang, Nampo, then JagalchiNo
Seomyeon6Choryang, Busanjin, Jwacheon, Beomil, Beomnaegol, then SeomyeonNo
πŸ“Œ We did not find an official travel time for these rides, so we do not give minutes. Allow extra time with luggage, and note that the direction of the train is the only thing to check at the platform.

Busan Station β€” the easy start

Visit Korea describes Busan Station as the starting and ending point of the Gyeongbu Line and the central station of the city. If you arrive with big bags and a late check-in, staying here keeps your first evening simple. From here the subway takes you to Nampo in two stops, and to Seomyeon in six.

Seomyeon β€” the big downtown

Visit Busan calls Seomyeon the largest downtown in Busan. It is on Line 1 and Line 2, which makes it a useful hub. The same page describes shopping streets, a cafΓ© street and a tower with floors of restaurants, cafΓ©s, food trucks and a cinema.

From Gimhae Airport: Visit Korea lists light rail to Sasang Station and then Line 2 as a way to reach Seomyeon, and gives about 30 minutes for that route (page updated May 22, 2026). There is also an airport limousine bus to Seomyeon. Official pages disagree on its fare and times, so check the same-day schedule before relying on it.

Nampo β€” markets and old downtown

Nampo is on Line 1, two stops south of Busan Station. From Nampo Station you can walk toward Gwangbok-ro Fashion Street, and Visit Busan describes Yongdusan Park as a symbol of the original downtown. The Forty Stairs are by Jungang Station (Exit 9 or 11).

From Gimhae Airport: we did not find an official direct route to Nampo or Busan Station. Reading the line map, the usual way is light rail to Sasang, Line 2 to Seomyeon, then Line 1 south. This is our reading of the map, not an official statement.

If you arrive late

Visit Busan says the subway runs from about 05:00 to 23:59, with first and last trains varying by station. The English timetable shows last trains on Line 1 near midnight, one per direction:

StationLast trains (one per direction)
Busan Station23:49 and 00:12
Nampo23:45 and 00:16
Seomyeon23:59 and 00:00

Times can change, so check the official timetable for your date.

Bottom line

Short stay, late arrival, lots of luggage β†’ Busan Station. Shopping, nightlife, airport convenience β†’ Seomyeon. Markets, street food, old town β†’ Nampo. All three are on Line 1, so you can switch bases mid-trip without changing trains.
